The original almshouses were built on Streatham High Road by the three surviving daughters of Henry Thrale in 1832. The almshousers provided subsidised lodgings for 4 poor widows or single women who had “attained an honest old age” in Streatham. In 1930 the building was demolished and the almshouses moved to their current site in Polworth Rd.
Now providing accommodation for 9 residents in attractive cottages arranged around a central green.
The Trustees are currently considering how to move the charity forward in its work of both providing for residents and the relief in need charity to help folk in the local area.
Harrison Housing is delighted to be involved in managing the Almshouses on behalf of the charity.
